Ralph Butcher, Chief Flight Instructor In 1970 Ralph started a project that addressed existing flight training deficiencies — curriculum, student performance, and instructor techniques. Instructors and students nationwide have enthusiastically endorsed his efforts.
His goal was to help all pilots, particularly those who fly infrequently. Such minimum activity usually precludes precision flying but not safe flying. With the proper insights, all pilots can fly safely with proper self-confidence.
Ralph began flying in 1959, instructing in 1963, and received his U.S. Army pilot wings (airplanes) in 1965. In subsequent years, he was the chief flight instructor for five flight schools and a United Airlines captain, retired from the airline in 1999 after a 30-year career.
For the past several years, Ralph has been the chief flight instructor at Orange County Flight Center, KSNA, and a contributing editor for the AOPA Flight Training magazine. His experience, insights, and teaching techniques, acquired during 26,000 flight hours, have been an invaluable resource for countless pilots and instructors.
